Liggett's Lumber Ledger Week 9/4/2026

Liggett's Lumber Ledger Week 9/4/2026

Lumber Ledger Report

Market Pricing Report for 9/4/2026 | Report based on MILL pricing (not retail)

Overall Market Summary:

The lumber and panel markets remain largely range-bound and cautious, with buyers still focused on their immediate needs rather than making aggressive forward purchases. Mills have generally been able to keep sales aligned with production, which is preventing prices from decreasing, but demand is not strong enough to drive a price increase either.

OSB:

Sales have mostly kept up with mill production, this has been the case for quite some time. Buyers are hesitant to order extra stock, especially as we head into fall. The market remains at a stalemate again this week. Mill prices should remain flat next week.

Plywood:

Prices are holding for the most part. Mills secured enough orders to keep up with production. With the 50% tariff on Canadian plywood, buyers continue to be in "wait and see mode". Mill prices should be mainly flat to slightly up next week.

SYP (Southern Yellow Pine):

Activity in the market this week has been rather slow as buyers have little incentive to make large purchases heading into fall. Smaller width boards (2x4, 2x6, etc.) seem to be getting scarcer as mills drawback production. Larger width boards (2x10, 2x12, etc.) seem to be sitting in mills longer due to less demand  Mill prices should be mixed next week.

SPF (Spruce Pine Fir):

Buyers are still trying to gauge market direction and when to jump back in. Mills aren't chasing business or offering discounts. This "lack of pressure" is causing the market to remain stable. Mill prices should remain flat next week.

Doug Fir & Hem Fir:

Some buyers are asking about future needs, while others are only buying enough to cover what they need right now. There is not a strong unified demand in the market right now. Mills are trying to hold their prices, but some are settling for lower prices to move inventory. Mill prices should be mostly down next week.

What is Liggett's doing?

As we continue to stock mainly SYP lumber, we got ahead of the "mixed pricing" for next week. A truckload of SYP was ordered before the price change. Our dimensional lumber should have no price change in the coming weeks.

Since OSB continues to remain flat for multiple weeks in a row, there should be little to no price change in the coming weeks.

Plywood on the other hand has been steadily increasing. We're holding off on purchasing until absolutely necessary to try and avoid the price spike. We have enough back stock to allow time for the market to hopefully dip back down. Unless we see a demand spike on our end - we should see no price change.

Thank you for tuning into this weeks Lumber Ledger! We'll see you again next Friday for another report!
